Community Outreach:
  • L. O’Connor has responded to the library response to our outreach letter. She was invited to address a meeting at the library on April 26, which she has accepted.
  • The Trex program has reportedly really taken off at the High School. The library has now set up a collection point for plastic bags.
  • Discussion of the wording of our message for the proposed Earth Day banner and other advertising venues.
New Business:
  • First Selectwoman B. Reemsnyder made a presentation for a new State initiative, by Ct. Conference of Municipalities (CCM), Sustainable CT., which the Town has signed up for. There will be a new (sustainable team) for this. She would like a volunteer from our committee to also serve on this team, as we are the most involved in many of the goals of Sustainable CT. L. Russo said he would volunteer. To be discussed at our next meeting.
  • The committee brought up the idea to the FSW of having another recycle collection sight on or near Halls Rd. She was receptive to the idea but said that the current improvement project is ongoing and our preferred site is spoken for.
Old Business:
    1) L. Russo was to contact Willie Waste to get any data that might be available but he stated that since they have had a major fire this would be put off for now.
    2) New Committee Town Email address; L. Russo is the only one that could keep it up and running. He will keep tabs on it and forward any items until the system is up and running.
